Pickerel Lake |

I love going to Pickerel Lake in the summer. I debated whether I would even tell you about it, wanting to keep the place somewhat quiet. It's NW of Ann Arbor about 20 miles. No houses, no power boats, it gets deep really fast (60' deep in places), and it can be QUIET. Except when the rednecks show up to guzzle their beer, smoke endless cigarettes and pull up their vehicles and blast their stereos. Luckily that is not too common. When it does happen, I can get away from it all with my float thingy. I paddle out a short distance, and voila, I have a lake all to myself. Truth is, I do that even when no one else is around! The lake is about 1/4 mile long. On a windy day I get blown from one side to the other, then I paddle back to the opposite side and let it happen again. Nice way to exercise and stay cool..... |
